AKASHA Learning Companionship Association
AKASHA Learning Companionship has worked diligently and tirelessly in Malaysia for 15 years, holding onto and advocating for the values of initiatives for change, ardently following the path of changing lives first through changing our own life.
AKASHA Learning Companionship Association is founded on the ideals of International Initiatives of Change (IofC) and began its journey within the Chinese communities of Malaysia. Mother Teresa once said ‘We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop. We should never be afraid of going against the values of the world.’ Following this belief, we embarked on this one-way journey of lifelong learning and growth.
However, numerous challenges came along the way, causing unprecedented damages to individuals, families, societies, nations and even the world at large. Spiritual disintegration, moral corruption, frenzy and perversity, religious warfare, mental illness, antisocial phenomenon, twisted personality, hypocrisy, overflow of ideologies and so on. All these stem from our ignorance and fear in life. Fear prompts people to carry out horrifying actions and paralyzes our capacity to function normally. If we are not able to properly understand life, the extension of challenges from life shall severely impede our growth in life.
Frank Buchman, the founder of Moral Re-Armament (MRA), sensed that the greed and aggression of human nature had spiraled out of control between the second world wars in the previous century. He had been practicing quiet time for years, listening to and following the inner guidance, subsequently proposing the idea of ‘Change Starts with Me’, coupled with four universal moral values──honesty, purity, unselfishness and love, and adding to them the standard of ‘absoluteness’ so as to right the wrongs of the world, combated the morally and spiritually collapsing human nature, corrupted politics of greed, excessive and unfettered aggression, selfish and self-interested commercial competitions and so on. Hence a global movement of ‘moral and spiritual re-armament’ was initiated in 1938 in England and spread across the world. People from all around the globe brought the ideals of this movement back to their home countries and further developed them, starting a wave of enthusiastic changes of moral re-armament.
AKASHA Learning Companionship has worked diligently and tirelessly in Malaysia for 15 years, holding onto and advocating for the values of IofC, change starts with me, ardently following the path of changing lives first through changing our own life. Our work has received enthusiastic support from many sectors of the society, and shall continue to bring warmth to the community and wholeheartedly dedicate ourselves for everyone’s benefit. In recent years, the concept of learning companionship has gradually spread across Bandung, Kupang, and Jakarta of Indonesia; Songjiang district of Shanghai, Fuzhou of Fujian province of China. Furthermore, with the support of the spiritual origin of learning companionship── Taiwan, Tainan Family EQ Development Association, the EQ System and Chinese in Action (CinA) Framework, AKASHA has decided to implement the plan of ‘Learning Companionship International Life Work Conference’ as its 15th anniversary approaches. This plan shall run for a period of 10 years, with a conference held every two years and the first three conferences held in Malaysia so as to strengthen the capacity of the on-the-ground participating members to host events; whereas the last two conferences are planned to take place overseas so as to promote the concept to other nations and regions with such needs.
- Broaden the international perspective of participants by providing the opportunity to take part in and observe the international conference
- Cement Malaysia’s foundation as a platform for a learning companionship nation within the Southeast Asia region and beyond.
- Strengthen the exchange and interflow of the international work of moral and spiritual enlightenment

Group Sharing── There are Problems in Every Family
Dividing into groups of 7 and spreading across different corners of the venue to explore the theme of the day. There are problems in every family but they are not unsolvable. The functioning of the family system is neglected by many, coupled with the constraints placed by the society on the openness of family members to face the problems, both factors contribute to the malfunctioning of the family, adding to even more family struggles. Small group sharing allows each member of the group to have more open and in-depth sharing.
Group Sharing── From an Individual to a Group
Dividing into groups of 7 and spreading across different corners of the venue to explore the theme of the day. From one individual taking action, persisting because of obedience to the faith of listening to inner voice; to how the Higher Being guided such action into a movement, guiding even more like-minded people to join, turning one faith, via a group, into a force to change the world.
Open Space── Sharing My Story
The use of Open Space Technology allows every participant to develop more space for narratives so that personal life stories can be told and spread across every corner, and everyone’s story can be fully heard.
Open Space── Stating My Action
The use of Open Space Technology allows every participant to develop more space for narratives so that personal life stories of action can be shared, more like-minded people can join the force, and everyone’s story of action can be fully heard.
In the Human Library session, we shall handpick with great care 15 books of life stories and let each participant freely choose 2 books to read. Drinks will also be offered so that everyone can listen to wonderful stories of change in the most relaxed manner.
There will be a rich collection of different varieties of national, cultural, traditional and creative expressions by participants from different regions, presenting on stage multicultural performances and creating a collective memory before everyone’s departure.
Bazaar of Learning Community
In the way of market space, we welcome the learning community life-workers and organisations from all over the world to share information and share resources with each others.
Determination and Commitment of Life
Before the end of the conference, make a determination for yourself. No matter whether or not you can find a like-minded collaboration, a commitment made here is a respect and love for life. This respect and love will only have genuine influence if you take concrete actions, turning your life into actions carrying meaningful growth.
